Myofascial Release
Myofascial Release is a form of therapy used to treat soft tissue that has become stiff and inflexible due to strain, trauma or injury. Fascia is the soft part of the connective tissue that supports and protects most parts of the human body, including the muscles. Healthy fascia enables muscles to easily glide over other muscles and bones. When fascia is damaged it becomes dry, stiff, and infexible which causes pain and a decrease in motion. During Myofascial release, the therapist uses strategically placed pressure and the heat from their hands to stretch and manipulate the fascia, which causes it to return to a more gel-like state. Myofascial release decreases and eliminates joint and muscle pain and allows the patient greater mobility. As fascia can be found in most parts of the body, Myofascial release has a multitude of uses and can be used to treat anything from neck and back pain, TMJ, and headaches to fibromyalgia and scoliosis.
